SLOW RIDE AND MODEL-BUILDING WORKSHOP, LOS ANGELES
FUNDED BY / PROJECT PARTNERS: LOS ANGELES RIVER COMMUNITIES FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EQUITY, MOUNTAINS RECREATION AND CONSERVATION AUTHORITY, AND PLACE IT!
This project coupled a slow bike ride with an interactive model-building workshop in which participants were able to build a more bike-friendly Elysian Valley, a small neighborhood in Los Angeles. The format of coupling a slow, interpretive ride or walk through a neighborhood with a model-building exercise is the perfect combination, as the first activity gets people into a sensing state in which they can be infinitely more creative with their ideas. They can then channel that creativity into the model-building exercise and make their ideas come to life. John Kamp of Prairieform did the graphic design for the event and co-led the workshop with James Rojas of Place It!.
